Rilo Blocks

Three pieces at a time. Make them fit.

Setting out the board…

How to play Rilo Blocks

Three pieces, a 10 by 10 grid, and no clock. The only pressure is the space you have left.

On a phone or tablet

  • Drag a piece from the tray onto the board.
  • It floats above your finger, so the squares stay visible.
  • Squares that fit light up with a tick; ones that do not show a dashed cross.
  • Let go anywhere else and the piece simply goes back.

Without dragging

  • Tap a piece to pick it up, then tap a square to place it.
  • On a keyboard: 1, 2 and 3 choose a piece.
  • Arrow keys move the target; Space or Enter places it.
  • P or Escape pauses — and cancels a selection first.

The rules

  • Pieces never rotate, and nothing falls on its own.
  • A full row or column clears straight away.
  • New pieces arrive only when all 3 have been placed.
  • The game ends when nothing left in the tray will fit.

How scoring works

Placing blocks ticks the score along. Clearing lines is where the points actually are.

Points

  • 10 points per block you place, so a five-block piece is worth 50.
  • 100 points per line you clear.
  • Clearing more than one line at once adds 100 for each extra line — so two at once beats two one after the other.

The combo

  • Clear something on consecutive placements and the combo climbs.
  • It multiplies the line bonus, up to ×5 — the blocks you place are never multiplied.
  • One placement that clears nothing sets it back to the start.
  • So a run of small clears can be worth more than one big one.

The Daily Challenge

Every day has one board, built from the date itself, and everybody gets exactly the same pieces in exactly the same order. There is no luck to it — whoever scores highest did more with the same material.

It changes at midnight UK time, wherever you are, and is scored separately from Classic. Classic saves an unfinished board so you can come back to it; the Daily is meant to be played through in one go.

Three habits that lift a score

  1. Plan all three pieces before placing one. Nothing refills until the tray is empty, so the awkward piece cannot be dodged — work out where it goes first, then fit the easy ones around it.
  2. Keep the middle clear, not the edges. A gap in the middle of the board can take a piece from any direction. A gap against an edge can only be filled one way.
  3. Set up a crossing. A row and a column that both need the same square is the best move in the game: two lines, a multi-line bonus and the combo kept alive, all from one placement.

Questions

Is Rilo Blocks free?
Yes. No purchases, no currency, no paid advantage, and nothing to unlock. Everything is earned by playing.
How do I place a piece?
Drag it from the tray onto the board. On a touchscreen the piece floats above your finger so you can see exactly where it will land. You can also tap a piece to select it and then tap a square, or use the keyboard.
When do I get new pieces?
Only once all three have been placed. That is the whole puzzle: the three pieces in front of you have to fit together, because you cannot skip the awkward one.
What clears a line?
A row or a column with all ten squares filled. If a row and a column complete on the same placement, both clear at once, and the square where they cross only counts once.
When does the game end?
When none of the pieces left in the tray will fit anywhere on the board. There is no timer and nothing falls on its own, so you can think for as long as you like.
What is the Daily Challenge?
One board a day, identical for everyone, built from the date itself. It resets at midnight UK time and is ranked separately from Classic.
Does it save if I close the tab?
An unfinished Classic game is kept on your device, so you can come back to the same board. The Daily Challenge is not saved that way — it is meant to be played in one sitting.
